Transnet Corporation Focusing on 5G Dedicated Networks
Interview with Transnet Corporation’s President, Mr. Tim Lou Transnet Corporation Focusing on 5G Dedicated Networks
In the early days, spectrum was categorized into three types: the first was allocated to operators for public mobile networks; the second was designated for government and public institutions, such as the military, police, and fire departments; the third was reserved for private use, allowing enterprises and individuals to set up their own networks. Large-scale private networks, such as those deployed in factories, hospitals, and schools, can establish their own communication infrastructure. This is known as a dedicated network, which is the core focus of Transnet Corporation’s product offerings.

With decades of experience in international telecommunications, Mr. Tim Lou possesses a global perspective and deep industry insights, enabling him to navigate evolving market dynamics effectively. In recent years, he has ventured into entrepreneurship and is deeply committed to the dedicated spectrum and network market. He mentions that because clients in this field are often unfamiliar with their own needs, the company has to spend extra effort listening to clients and working with them to find the right solutions. This collaboration often requires a longer time and results in customized products, which in turn increases costs. In a competitive market, selling high-priced products is always a challenge for any company. Transnet Corporation will face this issue again in 2025.

Five Key 5G Dedicated Network Application Areas
Founded on October 18, 2018, Transnet Corporation is a system integration company specializing in edge computing for 5G mobile communications and cloud-based wireless access networks, positioning these technologies at the core of its solutions. It aims to provide comprehensive application services. In response to the global trend of network development, the company helps clients build next-generation mobile wireless broadband networks, offering solutions in five key 5G dedicated network application areas: smart cities, smart factories, smart green buildings, and smart energy management, with the goal of enhancing customers' competitiveness in their markets and realizing the vision of digital application services.

In the smart city sector, services include the introduction of 5G transmission systems, IoT, and big data analytics technologies. For smart city applications, the company provides customized wireless dedicated networks that support high-quality image, voice, and data transmission services. These services include smart parking, smart monitoring, communication for military, police, and fire departments, as well as tracking and positioning services.

For smart factories, the main service is the rapid construction of dedicated networks using 5G wireless devices, strengthening information transmission in factories to improve control capabilities.
In the smart green building sector, Transnet provides high-capacity, single-core fiber optic solutions capable of integrating multiple services. Compared to traditional L2/L3 network infrastructure, these solutions reduce physical space requirements by approximately 90% and decrease overall installation weight by 80%. The solutions also feature dual power, dual control modules, dual data modules, dual routing, and cybersecurity protections. Additionally, a single-core fiber optic solution supports voice, data, image, mobile networks, and various IoT services. The solution provides a green energy network, where equipment that requires power is supplied at the information room and user end, while the intermediate relay can go up to 20 kilometers without needing external power. This can save 40% to 60% of power compared to traditional L2/L3.

Furthermore, in smart energy management, services include real-time load forecasting for efficient energy allocation, as well as remote equipment monitoring and power supply switching to enhance maintenance and operational control, reduce labor requirements, cut operational costs, and improve management efficiency.

Successful Client Cases after Product Deployment
Transnet has undertaken many public service projects, significantly enhancing Transnet’s industry reputation and demonstrating the company’s expertise in delivering tailored telecommunications solutions:
  • February 2022: Daya Cable Co., Ltd. - Introduced 5G and AITO to create the first "modular flexible smart production line" in the cable industry.
  • October 2019: Industrial Technology Research Institute - Built an IoT-based electric power network environment and back-end virtual core network environment for testing and verification.
  • August 2019: Taipei Mass Rapid Transit Corporation - Procured electronic multimedia display system expansion.
  • July 2019: Ministry of Economic Affairs Small and Medium Enterprise Administration – Innovation Procurement Project: Wireless Communication and 4G Integration System.
  • July 2019: New Taipei City Fire Department – 108 Wireless Communication and 4G Integration System Installation Project.
  • July 2019: Taoyuan International Airport Corporation - Procurement of electronic clocks and power line improvements.
  • June 2019: Taipei Mass Rapid Transit Corporation - Procurement of key system equipment for the circular line.
  • December 2018: Taoyuan Mass Rapid Transit Corporation - Procurement of equipment for the machine factory water loop CCTV system improvement.
Regarding the company's industry environment and development direction, President Tim Lou offers deeper insights. He says that Transnet's foundation in both wired and wireless communications is solid and strong. To understand the industry and the direction the company is moving, one can look at a few key aspects: Firstly, there are pure equipment products related to R&D, with high capital expenditures; some domestic networking companies focus on this. The second category involves components like optical fiber passive and active components, which require significant development time but yield relatively lower output value. Transnet, however, focuses on an evolving field with numerous wired and wireless applications. In contrast to the past, when a product could remain relevant for 10 to 20 years, today’s rapidly evolving technology landscape has shortened product life cycles to approximately 5 to 8 years, necessitating continuous innovation and adaptation.

Previously, operators dominated the market, but now companies like Google and Amazon in the cloud sector drive innovative and independent applications. As cloud technology expands, operators have less control, and new network technologies emerge to meet various user demands globally. The introduction of dedicated 5G networks in Taiwan challenges traditional operator-controlled spectrum dominance.

Mr. Tim Lou emphasizes that despite high customization costs, expanding the dedicated 5G network market is valuable. Transnet Corporation will continue its efforts in three key areas in 2025: adjusting cost structures, developing a supportive ecosystem for end-users, and providing dedicated personnel for post-deployment operations and maintenance.
